TULSA -- South Dakota State's Danni Healy scored in the first-half
and that was all SDSU needed as the Jackrabbits defeated Oral
Roberts University, 1-0, in conference play on Sunday afternoon at
the ORU Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles fall to 8-7-3 on the year and 2-2-3 in league
play as SDSU improves to 7-4-4 overall and 5-1-2 in The Summit
League.
Shakira Duncan had a chance to get the Golden Eagles on the board
first on a scrum in ORU's offensive end, but her shot was saved by
a SDSU defender at the 38:31 mark.
South Dakota State struck just minutes later as Healy broke the
scoreless tie with a goal at the 40:09 mark off a pass by Kellyn
Farrell.
ORU was out-shot 8-4 in the first-half, but held a 5-2 advantage
in corner kicks.
The Golden Eagles put pressure on SDSU in the second-half, but the
Jackrabbits defense would not allow the home team to get the
equalizer.
Duncan had two shots to lead the offensive attack as the Golden
Eagles had six shots, one on-goal.
Stef Gurley had another solid game in the net for
ORU with six saves.
ORU returns to action next Sunday in their last match of the
regular season, hosting Western Illinois at the ORU Soccer Complex
at 2 p.m.
