TULSA Shakira Duncan
scored the game-winning goal in the 59th minute to
lead Oral Roberts University
past
Oklahoma City, 1-0, at the
ORU Soccer Complex on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Golden
Eagles improved to 2-3-0 on the season and are now
2-1 on their home field. Oklahoma City dropped their first
match of the season to fall to 4-1-0.
Duncan took control of the ball
near the goal line, took one dribble, and then snuck the ball
between OCU's goalkeeper Brittany Tibbs and the near post for the
game's only goal at the 58:25 mark.
The Golden Eagles looked
to stretch their lead, but had two goals disallowed due to off
sides. Tara Lomas headed a ball past Tibbs just minutes
after Duncan's goal but was called off
due to off sides. Duncan also had a goal called
back due to an ORU player being called for off side in the
78th minute.
The two teams could not
find the back of the net in the first half as the Golden Eagles
held a 7-5 advantage in shots and a decisive 7-1 favor in corner
kicks. Tibbs had four stops for the Stars in the first frame as
ORU's Stef Gurley recorded two saves.
Emily Gagnon had seven
shots, four on goal, while Duncan had four shots on goal to
lead the Golden Eagle offense. ORU ended the match with a 17-11
advantage in shots.
OCU's Tibbs finished with
10 saves in a losing effort.
ORU returns to action on
Friday, hosting Arkansas-Little Rock at 8:00 p.m. as part of the
ORU/TU Invitational.
