NORMAN, Okla.
Oral Roberts University women's soccer team fell to in-state rival
Oklahoma, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at John Crain Field at OU Soccer
Complex.
Oklahoma (2-0) grabbed an
early lead over ORU (0-1) on Whitney Palmer's first goal of they
day in the 18th minute. Palmer then added her second tally of the
match to increase the Sooner lead to 2-0 at the 35:39
mark.
OU was able to increase
their lead to 3-0 in the 41st minute on a goal by Kate
Leyendecker.
Although the Sooners
seemed to dominate ORU in the first half, out shooting the Golden
Eagles 8-0, the second half was more evenly played.
OU's Tenesha Duncan opened
the scoring in the second frame with a goal in the 49th
minute after a feed from Kelsey Allison.
Newcomer Shakira Duncan
got the Golden Eagles on the board with an impressive, unassisted
goal in the 65th minute to cut the OU lead to 4-1.
With 12 newcomers on this
season's roster, ORU seemed to be more confident and comfortable in
the second half.
Goalkeeper's Stef Gurley
and freshman Amanda Wheeler split time in the net with Gurley
playing the first half and Wheeler seeing time in the second
frame.
Marissa Ranberger, Emily
Gagnon, Brittany Winslow, and Duncan all recorded shots for
ORU.
ORU returns to action on
Wednesday, hosting regional rival Arkansas at the ORU Soccer
Complex at 7 p.m.
