Golden Eagles Soar Past Centenary, 4-0

SHREVEPORT, La. – Four different Oral Roberts University women's soccer players scored to lead the Golden Eagles to a 4-0 victory over Centenary on Friday night. ORU improved to 5-7-1 overall and 2-2-0 in Summit League play, while Centenary dropped to 2-11-1 on the season and 1-3-0 in conference action.

Senior Correne Walker (Greater Portmore, Jamaica) led off the offensive barrage at the 11:07 mark after receiving the ball from Tara Lomas (Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada) and beating the goalkeeper one-on-one. The goal was Walker's third of the season and Lomas' fourth assist on the year.

With less than two minutes remaining in the opening half, senior Lorena Soto (Asuncion, Paraguay) converted her third goal of the season, lifting it over the keeper's head from 10 yards out. Freshman Maria Grados (Stillwater, Okla.) tallied her fourth assist on the play.

Natalya Manyan (St. Andrew, Jamaica) gave ORU a 3-0 advantage in the 57th minute off an assist from Alison McGuire (Sand Springs, Okla.) for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Freshman Samantha Roberts (Gilbert, Ariz.) scored her first collegiate goal from 35 yards out in the 77th minute to round out the scoring for ORU.

Goalkeeper Amanda Wheeler (Mission Viejo, Calif.) earned her fifth win and second shutout of the season, posting two saves in 90 minutes of play.

The Golden Eagles play host to Southern Utah at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the ORU Soccer Complex.
