ORU and Tulsa Play to 2-2 Draw

TULSA – Oral Roberts University women's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie against Tulsa at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium on Tuesday night. After the tie, the Golden Eagles are 3-2-1 on the season, while the Golden Hurricane are 5-3-1 overall.

"I'm extremely proud of the girls' effort and how we played the entire 110 minutes with only 14 players," said ORU women's soccer head coach Ryan Bush. "I felt like we controlled the game until we got tired later. I'm really proud of the effort, heart and energy, and especially proud of how the back four have played."

The teams played the first 45 minutes without a score, as ORU outshot Tulsa by a 5-3 margin. Lorena Soto (Asuncion, Paraguay) led the Golden Eagles in the first half with two shots, including one on goal that forced Tulsa goalkeeper Kendall Harclerode to make an impressive save.

After 57 scoreless minutes, an offensive barrage occurred with four goals coming in 15 minutes.

ORU senior Correne Walker (Greater Portmore, Jamaica) was fouled inside the box, forcing a penalty kick. Freshman Maria Grados (Stillwater, Okla.) would convert the penalty kick for her third goal of the season.

Five minutes later, a Tulsa forward crossed a ball in front of the goal and off of an ORU defender into the net to tie the contest. The goal marked the first score on the Golden Eagle defense in the last 234 minutes played.

In the 70th minute, ORU would have a series of consecutive corner kicks, with the third being the charm, as Soto knocked a header in from a Kaycie Porter (Kingwood, Texas) kick to reclaim the lead at 2-1.

The Golden Eagles wouldn't have the lead for long, as Hannah Taylor tallied her fifth goal of the season in the 72nd minute from 18 yards out to knot the contest at 2-2.

ORU sophomore Amanda Wheeler (Mission Viejo, Calif.) played all 110 minutes in goal, posting five saves.

The Golden Eagles will return to action against Texas Tech at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Lubbock, Texas.
