ORU Women's Tennis Falls to IPFW, 4-2

LAS VEGAS – The Oral Roberts University women's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision against IPFW (15-3) on Thursday to open conference play in Las Vegas, Nev.

ORU (0-8) took the early 1-0 advantage by wining two of the three doubles matches. Hayden Rush (Amarillo, Texas) and Rafaela Souza (Brasilia, Brazil) teamed up at the No. 1 position to cruise past IPFW's Ingrid Ballus and Yuka Kobayashi by a score of 8-2.

With a Golden Eagle loss at No. 3 doubles, Tayler Pippin (Sand Springs, Okla.) and Ana Costa (Brazil) edged Amy Recht and Sachi Janek by a score of 9-8(7) at the No. 2 spot to give ORU the early lead.

In singles play, Costa secured the only victory with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Janek at the No. 4 position.

Souza and Pippin both dropped tough three-set matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.

The Golden Eagles return to the court today for a doubleheader with IUPUI and Southern Utah.
