Golden Eagles Edge UMKC on Thursday, 4-3

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Oral Roberts University men's tennis team topped UMKC (9-6) by a score of 4-3 on Thursday in a battle of undefeated teams in Summit League play. The Golden Eagles improved to 5-6 overall this season and 4-0 in conference action.

The Kangaroos took the early 1-0 lead in the match by winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Bret Berryman and Patrick Smith downed Oleksandr Kotsuik (Kiev, Ukraine) and Dmitry Suslov (Novgorod, Russia) by a score of 8-4 at the top spot, while Serge Ristvojevic and Gustavo Guerin defeated Dario Beslic (Posvsje, Bosnia) and Peter Sullivan (Jenks, Okla.) at the No. 3 position by a score of 8-4.

Kotsuik bounced back in singles play to defeat Berryman at the top spot in straight sets for his fifth win of the season, while Dargel also earned his fifth victory with a 6-0, 3-6, 7-6(6) defeat of Guerin at the No. 3 position.

Beslic dispatched Ristvojevic in straight sets at the No. 4 position by a score of 6-0, 6-3, while Andrey Savin (Korolev, Russia) knocked off Dennis Schwarz at the No. 5 spot by a score of 7-6(4), 7-5.

ORU faces South Dakota State and IPFW in upcoming matches this weekend in Fort Wayne, Ind., in its quest for the regular-season conference title.
