TULSA-Shelby Williamson scored a pair of goals to lead No. 17
Kansas to a 5-3 win over Oral Roberts, Sunday at ORU Soccer
Complex.
Kansas (8-2-1) scored early and often against the Golden Eagles
(3-5-0). The Jayhawks got on the board just 19 seconds into the
match when Whitney Berry took a misplayed ball and fed Emily Cressy
for a wide-open goal and a 1-0 lead.
Williamson scored her first goal in the 18th minute off an assist
from Monica Dolinsky as Kansas grabbed a 2-0 lead. ORU's Natalya
Manyan made it a 2-1 game, putting one past KU keeper Julie
Hanley on a cross from
Tara Lomas.
Williamson gave Kansas 3-1 lead when she scored less than a minute
before halftime. Kelsey Clifton was credited with the assist.
Kansas grabbed a 4-1 lead when Dolinsky scored an unassisted goal
in the 67th minute. ORU closed to within 4-2 when
Whitney Booth scored
at 69:21 on the first of ORU's two penalty kicks.
Sarah Robbins joined the goal-scoring parade in the 83rd minute as
Kansas went ahead 5-2.
Lorena Soto finished the
scoring spree on a penalty kick with less than a minute remaining
in the game.
Kansas out-shot ORU, 17-13. ORU keeper
Amanda Wheeler made five
saves despite allowing all five goals. Kansas' keeper tandem of
Hanley and Kat Liebetrau combined for four saves.
The Golden Eagles open Summit League play when they host North
Dakota State, 6 p.m., Friday at ORU Soccer Complex.
