different players scored goals as Oral Roberts eased to a 3-0
Summit League victory over UMKC, Sunday at ORU Soccer Complex.
The win
improves ORU to 9-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in Summit League play. The
nine wins represent the most for the Golden Eagles since the 2005
team posted 10 victories.
After
dominating play in the first half (11-4 advantage on shots) but
failing to score, ORU continue to fire away at the Kangaroos
(1-14-1, 0-6-1) in the second half.
Freshman Jennifer
Abernathy finally broke the scoreless tie in the 75th minute
when her she knocked in her team-leading sixth goal of the season
for a 1-0 lead. Junior Anna
Bickers assisted the goal.
Less than a
minute later freshman Whitney
Brannan gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. Brannan took a pass
from Mary-Kate
Halsmer and beat UMKC goalkeeper Jami Finnell in the 76th
minute.
Sophomore Lauren
Parks and junior Maria
Grados teamed up on ORU's next goal. Grados sent in a corner
kick from the right side and Parks hit a strong header into the net
for a 3-0 lead in the 86th minute.
In all, the
Golden Eagles out-shot UMKC 23-6. Finnell finished with seven saves
for the Kangaroos while ORU keeper Amanda
Wheeler posted her second straight shutout by making four
saves.
The Golden
Eagles wrap up the 2010 regular season with a pair of critical
Summit League road games, beginning 7 p.m., Friday at South Dakota
State. ORU wraps up the season next Sunday at North Dakota State.
The Golden Eagles need at least one victory to qualify for the
Summit League Tournament, which begins Nov. 5 in Brookings,
S.D.
