Sioux Falls,
SD-The Oral Roberts women's tennis team stumbled to two-straight
losses Saturday afternoon, falling 4-0 to IPFW and 4-2 to IUPUI on
day-two of the Summit Cluster at the Sioux Empire Fitness
Complex.
It was a
quick exit for ORU in the first match against IPFW, as the 24-3
(7-0) Mastodons won all but one contest by at least three
points.
The closest
the Golden Eagles could come was in #1 singles, where Lina
Semenova dropped a tough 7-5, 6-3 bout to Amy Recht.
Tori
Dollar fell 6-2, 6-2 at #3 singles, and Rachel
Scroggs dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision in #5.
Kristin
Gray, Ekaterina
Kondrashova and Brittney
Smith did not complete their singles matches.
ORU fared
slightly better in the afternoon finale, as Semenova clawed out a
6-2, 6-2 win over Danielle Haefele in #1 singles.
Kondrashova
was back in the win column with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Alisha
Cummings in #4 singles.
Dollar
battled tough in #3 singles competition, before falling (6-4), 6-2,
6-3 to Vanessa Whyte.
No doubles
matches were played in the IUPUI contest.
With the
loss, ORU falls to 4-11 for the season and 3-4 in Summit play. The
Golden Eagles look to wrap-up the regular season on Saturday, as
they square off against Centenary at 2:00 p.m. A win over the
Ladies would place ORU in a tie with Oakland for the fourth and
final spot in the Summit tournament. The Golden Eagles defeated
Oakland 6-1 on April 2 and would hold the tie-breaker.
