OMAHA, Neb. - Missed opportunities were too much for the Oral Roberts University women's soccer team to overcome on Tuesday as the Golden Eagles fell to South Dakota 1-0 in Omaha, Nebraska.

ORU dropped to 3-9-3 overall and 2-4-0 in the conference, while the Coyotes improved to 9-6-2 and 2-2-2 in the league.

The Coyotes scored the lone goal of the match in the 75th minute when Corey Strang slipped past the Golden Eagle backline, getting a touch on the ball from five yards out into an empty net.

Turning Point

In the 65th minute, the Golden Eagles had a chance to take a 1-0 lead as USD was called for a hand ball inside the penalty area. However, Coyote goalkeeper Mackenzie Viktor read the penalty kick attempt by Ashley Martin and made a diving save to keep the match scoreless.

  • Ashley Martin, Amanda Dial, Megan Giles and Mariah Morgan each took a shot on goal.
  • Helen Erb (3-5-1) recorded three saves in the loss.
  • Rebecca Sparkman had two shots on target for the Coyotes.

ORU wraps up its season this weekend with a pair of Summit League matches at the Case Soccer Complex. The Golden Eagles host North Dakota State at 7 p.m. on Friday, and close the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m. against IPFW.
