RUSTON, La. -
Oral Roberts University was dominant on Saturday afternoon as
they went on the road and hammered Grambling, 7-0, at the Ruston
Tennis Complex. All nine matches were easy victories for Beverly
Dawson's team, which evened its record at 1-1 on the
season.
The Golden Eagles pounded Grambling in all three pairs contests. On
the top court, Marizanne
Bouwer and Melanie
Marlin took down Owwatamism Kassin and Tabitha Nankya, 6-1,
while Ximena Puentes and Haley
Martin scored a 6-3 win over Jay Jones and Tafadzna Chirialza
at No. 2. The only tight match was on court three, where Nika
Munoz and Mairead
Cleary knocked off Lise Karenzi and Shannle Southern, 7-5.
The dominance continued in singles matches for ORU. Martin swept
Kassin on the featured court, 6-0, 6-0, and Bouwer waltzed past
Jones in the second flight, 6-2, 6-0.
Marlin reigned over Southern in the third match, 6-2, 6-2, and
Puentes earned her first ORU win with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over
Chirialza in match four. On the fifth court, Cleary was a 6-1, 6-1
winner over Karenzi, while Munoz beat Nankya in the final match,
6-4, 6-2.
ORU completes the weekend road trip and looks to move above .500
when they face Arkansas on Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville. Start
time is scheduled for 3 pm CT.
