TULSA, Okla. -
An idle month did not do Oral Roberts University any favors on
Saturday morning as they were swept by Northwestern State, 7-0, in
Southland Conference action. The Golden Eagles (1-3, 0-2 SLC) had
not played since February 9.
The Lady Demons (7-3, 1-0 SLC) opened the morning with two doubles
victories to secure the opening point. Polina Konop and Tatiana
Larina took down Marizanne
Bouwer and Melanie
Marlin on the top court, 8-0, while Aliona Ladutska and Daniela
Simonova were 8-3 winners over Nika
Munoz and Mairead
Cleary on court three.
All six singles points went to Northwestern State. Konop dropped Haley
Martin in the top flight, 6-4, 6-2, and Larina bested Bouwer on
court two, 6-4, 6-1. Natalia Krutova ended the upper half matches
with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Marlin on court three.
The fourth flight belonged to Ladutska, 6-0, 6-2, over Ximena
Puentes, and Kateryna Piatakova won the No. 5 match over
Cleary, 6-1, 6-2. In the sixth and final flight, Munoz fell to
Simonova, 6-0, 6-0.
ORU will finish the weekend on Sunday morning when they host
Stephen F. Austin. First serve at the Case Tennis Center is
scheduled for 10 a.m. CT.
