Bears Rally to Drop ORU, 5-2

TULSA, Okla. - Haley Martin

scored a pair of victories, but Oral Roberts University could not hold on to an early lead in a 5-2 loss to Central Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at the Case Tennis Center. Beverly Dawson's team is now 3-12 (0-8 Southland Conference).

Martin teamed with Ximena Puentes for a No. 2 doubles victory over Simona Horsikyan and Cassidy Crawford, 8-7 (7-5). The junior also won her No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, over Horsikyan.

The Golden Eagles won the doubles point to take an early lead. In addition to the second court victory, Melanie Marlin and Marizanne Bouwer won the top court, 8-3, over Kelsey Williams and Kristina Horsikyan. The win offset a loss at court three, where Mairead Cleary and Nika Munoz were 8-3 losers to Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco.

But Central Arkansas (10-9, 3-6 SLC) climbed out of the hole by winning the final five singles matches. Williams won the second flight, 6-3, 7-5, over Bouwer, and Kristina Horsikyan was a third court winner over Marlin, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Crawford won on the fourth court, 6-2, 6-2, over Puentes, and Buck topped Cleary in the fifth flight, 6-2, 6-3. The sixth and final court went to Bianca Strukelj, 6-3, 6-1, over Munoz.

ORU continues their season next Saturday, when they host Incarnate Word. Match time is booked for 8:30 a.m. CT.
