TULSA, Okla. - Haley
Martin
scored a pair of victories, but Oral Roberts University could
not hold on to an early lead in a 5-2 loss to Central Arkansas on
Sunday afternoon at the Case Tennis Center. Beverly
Dawson's team is now 3-12 (0-8 Southland Conference).
Martin teamed with Ximena
Puentes for a No. 2 doubles victory over Simona Horsikyan and
Cassidy Crawford, 8-7 (7-5). The junior also won her No. 1 singles
match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, over Horsikyan.
The Golden Eagles won the doubles point to take an early lead. In
addition to the second court victory, Melanie
Marlin and Marizanne
Bouwer won the top court, 8-3, over Kelsey Williams and
Kristina Horsikyan. The win offset a loss at court three, where Mairead
Cleary and Nika
Munoz were 8-3 losers to Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco.
But Central Arkansas (10-9, 3-6 SLC) climbed out of the hole by
winning the final five singles matches. Williams won the second
flight, 6-3, 7-5, over Bouwer, and Kristina Horsikyan was a third
court winner over Marlin, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Crawford won on the fourth
court, 6-2, 6-2, over Puentes, and Buck topped Cleary in the fifth
flight, 6-2, 6-3. The sixth and final court went to Bianca
Strukelj, 6-3, 6-1, over Munoz.
ORU continues their season next Saturday, when they host Incarnate
Word. Match time is booked for 8:30 a.m. CT.
