TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts men's tennis team shutout Eastern Illinois, 7-0, Friday evening at Philcrest Tennis Center.
ORU didn't lose a set in Friday evening's ousting of Eastern Illinois. The doubles duo of Geronimo Espin Busleiman and Barnabas Koncz claimed the point with a 7-6 win at the No. 1 spot to improve to 5-1 on the season in doubles action. Freshman Mert Celik competed with Eddy Leardini in the No. 3 position and the team won 6-4.
"The guys played well tonight," Head Coach Mark Milner said. "We did a good job starting with intensity in doubles and carried it throughout singles. We're looking forward to getting on the road to play Lamar and PVAMU next week."
Celik earned the first point for ORU in singles at the No. 5 spot with 6-3, 6-1 win. It was his first singles victory of his ORU career. The Golden Eagles then claimed points in order at No. 2, 3 and 4 with Koncz, Marcello Moreira and Andre Russo sealing the match win for ORU. Newcomer Geronimo Espin Busleiman claimed another singles victory with a win at No. 1. The sweep was claimed by Eddy Leardini at the No. 6 position.
The Golden Eagles kept the Panthers at bay with only one set in singles play being as close with a 7-6 finish. The Panthers only got as close with three points in sets in four of the six positions in singles play.
Up Next: ORU will travel to Beaumont, Texas, to take on Lamar Friday, February 14 at 12 p.m.
