TULSA, Okla. – On a blustery fall day in Tulsa, the Oral Roberts women's soccer team (5-10-2, 2-5-1 Summit) fell in conference play to Western Illinois (9-6-1, 3-4-0 Summit) by a score of 2-1. Wind played a major factor in Sunday's match with all three goals being scored with the wind at the attacking teams back.
Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, Western Illinois had the wind at their backs in the first half and managed to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Just over 13 minutes into the game, the Leathernecks struck first with precision passing that lead to an open shot. About 12 minutes later, Western Illinois doubled their lead when they connected on a free kick to go up 2-0.
After the break, the Golden Eagle offense began to click and connect on passes. In the second half, ORU ripped 10 shot attempts towards the frame – eight more than they managed to attempt in the first half. Freshman
Samantha Guzman got the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard in the 72nd minute, scoring her fourth goal of the season. Adding an assist on the play was
Mia Kitterman, who picked up her fourth assist.
