TULSA, Okla. – Central Arkansas spoiled the season opener for the Oral Roberts women's soccer team, knocking off the Golden Eagles 5-2. The match marked the first time ORU had taken the pitch since November 3, 2019 – 460 days ago.
Netting a pair of goals within a minute, UCA took a commanding 2-0 lead in the 23rd minute, never looking back for the remainder of the way.
The Golden Eagles took the 2-0 deficit into the halftime break. The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard when
Martha Helsee punched in a goal, being assisted by
Brianna McGowan and
Christa Van Loon.
The Sugar Bears added a goal in the 59th minute before ORU cut the deficit to one. In the 65th minute,
Drishana Pillay chipped a shot over the keeper, coming off an assist from Helsee.
UCA added a pair of insurance goals late to put the match out of the reach for the Golden Eagles.
