TULSA, Okla. – The ORU Women's Soccer team fell short at Tulsa, 1-0, Saturday evening to wrap up non-conference play.
Despite Sunday's loss, Oral Roberts enters conference play with the most non-conference victories in the win column since 2016.
The Golden Eagles were relentless in the first half on both sides of the ball. Playing the majority of the game on the offensive attack, Oral Roberts tallied four shots in the first stanza. On the other end,
Louisa Ramsauer and the ORU defense only allowed two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
The first goal of the evening was scored by Tulsa's Jordan Frederick. Frederick recorded the goal that put TU up, 1-0, with 17 minutes to play in the first half. Her game winning goal was assisted by Madison Tokarchik.
With three minutes left to play in the opening half, ORU landed back-to-back shots on goal by
Alex Machado and
Kennedy Langebartels. The team continued to battle as they went into halftime.
The Golden Eagles remained on the attack in the second half, keeping the ball on Tulsa's defensive half for the majority of the 45 minutes.
In the 62
nd minute,
Samantha See landed a shot just wide of the goal that would've made it a 1-1 match. One minute later,
Julia Thasaphong gave ORU another opportunity, but this time the shot was saved. Oral Roberts stayed consistent in its play as three minutes later, the Golden Eagles placed two more shots on goal giving them a chance to tie it up, but couldn't connect.
Ramsauer made back-to-back saves in the 61
st and 75
th minutes to keep ORU in the game. The Golden Eagles gave themselves two final opportunities to tie it up as
Ava Crimmings and
Gabrielle Abbey each gave their team a chance with less than 45 seconds remaining. Despite ORU's continuous pursuit, the Golden Eagles fell short.
Quote from Head Coach Austin Risenhoover
"I thought our girls competed and we played a really good brand of soccer. In the second half, we out-shot them and I thought we played really well. I'm absolutely proud of the girls. We talked to them before the weekend that we were going to treat this like a semifinal game in the Summit League tournament. They cleared one off the line there at the end, so I was proud of our team."
