Location: South Field (St. Paul, Minnesota)

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Oral Roberts women's soccer team fell short, 2-1, on the road at St. Thomas Sunday afternoon to close out 900-plus mile road trip over the weekend.

St. Thomas jumped out to a quick start scoring the first goal in the seventh minute. McKenna Lehman put the ball in the back of the net for the Tommies to lead 1-0. Five minutes later, UST made it a 2-0 game with a goal by Mariah Nguyen.

After the two goals, ORU began to settle in with back-to-back shots by Julia Thasaphong to get the offense going. In the 21st minute, Samantha See scored her third goal of the season to cut the deficit to one. Ava Crimmings started the play with a pass to Mia Kitterman into the penalty area. Kitterman then tapped the ball from the right to See for the header goal to the left of the keeper. The two teams went into halftime with the score, 2-1.

In the second half, ORU was on the attack with seven total shots with four being on goal. With the Golden Eagles keeping the ball on the offensive end, the defense also had a strong showing holding the Tommies to only two shots on goal in second 45 minutes. Kitterman and Abril Lucio had back-to-back shots on goal that were both saved in the 68th and 72nd minutes, respectively.

The final 10 minutes showed grit for the Golden Eagles as the team was able to get two more shots on goal. The first shot by Samantha Guzman was saved in the 82nd minute. Gabrielle Abbey came forward to attempt the equalizer, but her shot was also saved in the 83rd minute. Abbey had another shot one minute later, but missed high over the crossbar.

Quote from Head Coach Austin Risenhoover
"Listen, we have to find ways to win on Sundays and when things aren't perfect for us. We played a physical St. Thomas team that got after us and put on our heels in the first 15. We did respond well and fought back, but in conference you can't put yourself behind. The positives are that we went on a very hard road trip and we are coming back with three points. Now we get the next three at home, so we will see how we respond. I'm proud and excited for this group moving forward."
