#ORUWSoc Falls to South Dakota State, 5-2, in Summit League Semifinals

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Oral Roberts women's soccer team fell to South Dakota State, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon in the Summit League Championship Semifiinals.

ORU opened up the scoring quicky in the first half. In the 5th minute, senior Kennedy Langebartels rebounded a shot by Luci Rodriguez and fired it into the back of the net to put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0.

SDSU quickly responded and ramped up their offensive attack. From the 19th-29th minute, the Jackrabbits would score three goals to tip the scales in their favor.

ORU would go into the break down 3-1.

In the 48th and 49th minute of the second half, SDSU would tag on two more goals.

With 21 minutes remaining in the match, freshman Carys Torgesen would cut into the lead as she scored off the assist from Ariana Fresquez, making it 5-2 in favor of the Jackrabbis. This was Torgesen's first goal of her career.

The score remained 5-2 for the rest of the game as South Dakota State came away with the win and advanced the Summit League Championship match.

Season in Review
 
The Oral Roberts women's soccer team saw records broken and history made throughout their 2023 season. Here's a look at some accomplishments made by the Golden Eagles this year in Head Coach Austin Risenhoover's second season at the helm:
 
  • ORU defeated crosstown rival Tulsa, 2-1, in dramatic fashion after Ava Crimmings and Carty Kingsbury scored two goals in 90 second in the second half.
  • Later in the season, the Golden Eagles defeated Kansas State, 2-1, in Manhattan after two second half goals by Samantha See and Julia Thasaphong. This was their first Power 5 win since 2012 and the first of the Austin Risenhoover era.
  • ORU bested Omaha, 2-1, in a rematch of the 2022 Summit League Championship Match. Gabrielle Abbey and Carty Kingsbury both scored in the match to give the Golden Eagles the win.
  • ORU score more than four goals in a match three separate time this year.
  • Defender Gabrielle Abbey concluded her incredible career with the Golden Eagles as she led the team in goals scored with five.
  • Senior Kennedy Langbartels finished the season first on the team in total points with 14.
  • Keeper Alexa Riefer recorded a career high 11 saves in the second match of the year against Oklahoma. She finished the season with 65 total saves and one shutout.
  • Graduate students Gabrielle Abbey and Samantha See earned All-Summit League Second Team honors this year.
  • Senior Kristi Keller was named to the All-Summit League Honorable Mention Team and sophomore Carty Kingsbury earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team.
