SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Oral Roberts women's soccer team worked a 2-2 draw against Missouri State in a gritty match Thursday night from Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium in Springfield, Missouri.
Carly Raunig struck first for the Bears in the 12th minute when she scored off a pass from Julia Kristensen.
Twenty minutes later,
Amy Alexander answered for the Golden Eagles with her first goal of the season. On the play, Alexander shook free of her defender with nifty footwork before finding the back of the net with her right foot. Freshman
Abigail Hoffman connected with Alexander on the play for her second assist of the season.
The two teams battled for the remainder of the half, but it was Missouri State that led 2-1 at the break after capitalizing on a late corner kick in the closing seconds. Â
Â
Out of the break, ORU attacked early and often, applying immediate pressure on the Bear's defense.
Â
In a scrambled sequence in the 51st minute,
Gabrielle Abbey, a preseason Summit League Player to Watch, found the loose ball off an Alexander shot and laced it into the top of the net for her second goal of the year. Alexander was credited with the assist on the goal, marking her first of the season.
Â
Neither team was able to break through on the scoreboard the remainder of the match as the contest ended in a 2-2 draw.
