DENTON, Texas – The Oral Roberts women's soccer team's unbeaten start continued Thursday night, as the Golden Eagles battled North Texas to a 1-1 draw at Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium.
ORU struck first in the 15th minute, as
Cameron Silva buried her first goal of the season off an assist from
Genesis Helsley, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead they would carry into the second half.
Alyson Sebban and the ORU defense held firm behind that early strike, limiting North Texas to just five shots in the opening 45 minutes.
The Mean Green came out with more urgency after the break, out-shooting the Golden Eagles 10-2 in the second half. North Texas finally broke through in the 76th minute, as Claire Niedermeier knotted the match at 1-1 off an assist from Alexis Miller.
Neither side could find a winner down the stretch despite late chances on both ends. Niedermeier tested Sebban again in the 87th minute, while
Brianna Castleberry had the best look for ORU in the closing minutes, forcing a save from North Texas goalkeeper Sarah Margaret Seabrook in the 89th.
Sebban finished with five saves in the draw, while Seabrook matched her with three stops of her own.
Game Notes:
- ORU moves to 4-0-1 on the season, while UNT sits at 2-1-1.
- UNT outshot the Golden Eagles, 15-7, but only had a slight 6-4 edge in shots on goal.
- Silva's goal was her first as a Golden Eagle and third of her college career.
- The Mean Green had a minor advantage in possession, controlling the ball 51 percent of the match.
- Sebban recorded a career high five saves.
- UNT's Niedermeier scored her fifth goal of the season.
