LAWRENCE, Kansas – Senior
Abraham Chelangam came in first at the Bob Timmons Rim Rock Classic for the third consecutive season as the Oral Roberts Cross Country Team competed Saturday morning. Joining in the Golden Eagles' top finishers was junior
Ossly Murambidzi, who placed third in the women's race.
The Golden Eagles men's team placed third overall with 70 points, while the women's team came in fourth with 85 points.
Chelangam's took first in the men's 6000 meter running a 17:58.8, two second ahead of four Kansas competitors. Joining in the top finishers were
Artwell Magake, who ran an 18:41.3 and finished eighth, and
Andrew Smithwick, who ran a 19:02.2 and places 14th.
Brian Cheruiyot and
Sibonokuhle Thwala placed 25th and 26th, respectively, running 19:43.1 and 19:44.4.
Freshman
Lucas Espinosa made his collegiate debut running a 19:53.5. Following Espinosa were
Ishmael Acheampong and Victor Rosas, running 19:56.1 and 19:58.2, respectively. Sophomore
Jackson Cook and freshman
Marco Pineda rounded off the Golden Eagles pack, running 20:18.1 and 20.41.9.
Leading the ORU women's team was Murambidzi, running a 17:57.2 and placing third, marking her third top 10 finish at the annual invitational.
Sydney Lister was the next Golden Eagle to cross the finish, running a 19:53.7 and placing 17th.
Baylee Woodrich finished in 20:04.5 and Lillian Woolrey in 20:08.3, playing 21st and 22nd, respectively. Freshmen
Helen Hesselgren and
Emelia Hesselgren followed, running a 20:55.4 and 21:16.6.
Hannah Claytor rounded out the ORU pack, running a 21:28.2.
