Kyle Gibson took over as the head coach of the Oral Roberts cross country team and as an assistant coach for track and field in September 2021 bringing more than nine years of coaching experience to the Golden Eagles.

Before coming to ORU, Gibson spent two seasons as the head cross country and track and field coach at NCAA Division II Drury. In 2020, the women's cross country team had their best finish in program history at the Great Lakes Valley Conference as the Panthers finished second. During the 2019 season, he guided Drury’s first-ever cross country All-American as junior Claire McCune had the best finish in program history coming in 35th overall at the NCAA Division II Championship in Sacramento, California.

Gibson also worked at Washburn as the assistant track and field and cross country coach for three seasons. On the cross country staff, he led two All-Americans, four national qualifiers, five all-region selections and one conference champion. He helped the men's cross country program to an NCAA Regional appearance and a 10th-place finish in only their third year of existence. With the track & field program, he mentored two All-Americans, eight provisional NCAA qualifiers, four MIAA champions, a pair of Academic All-Americans and one USATF Junior National qualifier.

He spent the 2014-15 season as an assistant coach at Belmont Abbey and was the interim head coach throughout the summer. Gibson coached four individual conference champions, including the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Most Valuable Performer at the 2015 championships.

Gibson served as a graduate assistant coach at NCAA Division I Saint Francis for two seasons, where he was part of the 2013 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Coaching Staff of the Year. He helped the women's outdoor squad to a second-place finish at the conference meet and assisted the men's cross country team to third place in the NEC, an improvement of six spots from the previous year.

As student-athlete at Saint Francis, Gibson's indoor distance medley relay team won a conference championship in 2011. He also was part of a school-record performance in the outdoor 4x1500 meter relay, and had a third-place finish in the mile run during the indoor conference championships in 2010.

His family coaching ties run deep as his father serves as the head track and field and cross country coach at Duquesne, his sister is the head women’s cross country coach at Yale and his brother is the head cross country coach at Southern Mississippi.

Gibson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Saint Francis in 2012 and added a Master of Human Resource Management degree in 2014.
