Scott Higgins joined the ORU athletic department in February 2000, after a three-year stint as a sports anchor for KOTV, Channel 6. In all, Higgins spent 13 years as a sportscaster in Joplin, Missouri; Las Vegas, and Tulsa before transitioning to collegiate athletics. Among the highlights he covered were UNLV’s national basketball championship, heavyweight title fights, and more than a dozen college football bowl games. In Las Vegas and Tulsa, he won Associated Press awards for best reporting. Higgins was also the play-by-play voice of the AFL’s Tulsa Talons during their inaugural season.
At ORU, Higgins is the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Revenue Generation and in this role he oversees the marketing efforts, including sponsorships, ticketing, advertising, broadcasting agreements and game operations. He also is a member of the Golden Eagle Club board of directors.
Higgins is a former conference representative for the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators and member of the Rotary Club of Tulsa. He is a longtime Tulsa resident who graduated from Jenks High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in Radio/TV/Film – News and Public Affairs.
Higgins married the former Dawn Burmaster in 1987. They live in Tulsa and have three adult sons, Troy, Sean, and Ryan.
