MACOMB, Ill. – The Oral Roberts men's soccer team won its Summit League Championship semifinal game against Omaha, 2-1, Thursday afternoon to advance to the league Championship for the first time since 2015 on Saturday.
In the 38
th minute,
Juan Arias connected with the back of the net on a free kick from 22 yards out. Arias took the free kick and recorded his second goal of the season in the upper left corner.
Dante Brigida created the free kick after dribbling through defenders and getting tackled just outside the penalty area.
Omaha's Kenji Mdoma Dem tied the match, 1-1, in the 54
th minute. Mdoma Dem hit the back of the net on a cross by Mitch Hammer.
Arias scored his second goal of the game in the 74
th minute to give ORU a 2-1 lead.
Felipe Medina sent a free kick to the right post and Arias connected with the header goal for his third goal of the season. Medina was credited with the assist.
With 2:30 left to play in the match, Omaha was fouled inside the penalty area to give the Mavericks a penalty kick and a chance to tie the game.
Miles Motakef made the save of the game as he deflected Nil Ayats' penalty kick to keep it a 2-1 game.
