Rochester, Mich. -- The Oral Roberts University volleyball team swept Mid-Con foe Oakland in three games today (30-24, 30-10, 30-22). The Golden Eagles are 4-0 against Mid-Con opponents this season, the only team in the Mid-Con still with a perfect conference record.

ORU (11-6, 4-0 Mid-Con) was led by sophomore outside hitter Becky Brunelle, who had 14 kills, two block solos and six digs. Senior middle blocker Ivana Placko had a match-high .476 hitting percentage (12-2-21) to go along with three service aces.

Sophomore libero Becky Dreher had 20 digs, while senior setter Anna Moreno had 42 assists. Senior right-side hitter Patricia Menezes had 12 kills, four digs and a service ace.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 7-3 lead over the Golden Grizzlies in game one. ORU led by as many as eight, 29-21, before Brunelle finished the game with a kill. Brunelle had seven kills in the first game, leading ORU to a 30-24 victory.

A nine-point scoring spree in game two boosted the Golden Eagles to a 30-10 victory. The score jumped from 16-9 to 25-9 off of two service aces by Placko and a pair of kills by Brunelle and sophomore middle blocker Celeste Jones.

Game three brought ORU a 30-22 victory. Brunelle had five kills in the third game, while Menezes and Placko each had four.

The ORU volleyball team is back in action next week as they face Arkansas-Little Rock on Monday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in Little Rock, Ark., and Arkansas State on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. in Jonesboro, Ark.

Other Notables: Anna Moreno's service ace in game three gave her 152 service aces for her career and tied her for sixth place on the Mid-Continent Conference career charts in service aces. She needs only 21 more aces this year to take over the top position from Vicki Paciski, who played for Troy State from 1994-96.
