Menezes, Moreno Move Up Mid-Con Charts in Volleyball Victory

Little Rock, Ark. -- Senior right-side hitter Patricia Menezes led the Golden Eagles to a four game volleyball victory over Arkansas-Little Rock (30-23, 30-24, 27-30, 30-17) today with a match-high 18 kills. The 18 kills give Menezes 1,456 kills for her career and move her into third place on the Mid-Continent Conference career charts in kills.


Menezes needs only 125 more kills this season to take over the Mid-Con career record of 1,581 set by Julie Mohrfeld of UMKC (1997-2000).

Menezes posted a .306 hitting percentage (18-7-36) in tonight's match. Menezes also contributed two service aces and eight digs.

Senior setter Anna Moreno dished out a match-high 61 assists, seven kills and two service aces. The two service aces give her 154 for her career and move her into fifth place on the Mid-Con career charts in aces.


Senior outside hitter April Syko had a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs along with two blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Celeste Jones had 14 kills, six digs and two blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Becky Brunelle had 11 kills. Sophomore libero Becky Dreher had 15 digs.


ORU (12-6, 4-0 Mid-Con) has won its last six matches. Arkansas-Little Rock drops to 7-9 on the season.


The ORU volleyball team is back in action tomorrow Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. to take on Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark.

Menezes needs only 125 more kills this season to take over the Mid-Con career record of 1,581 set by Julie Mohrfeld of UMKC (1997-2000). Anna Moreno's two service aces gave her 154 service aces for her career and place her fifth on the Mid-Continent Conference career charts in service aces. She needs only 19 more aces this year to take over the top position from Vicki Paciski, who played for Troy State from 1994-96. April Syko's 13 kills tonight move her into sixth place on the ORU career charts with 970 career kills.
