Stephanie Clark scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Oral
Roberts University defeated Oklahoma State 72-65 in the
championship game of the Fun in the Sun Shootout, Tuesday in
Mexico.
Clark, a sophomore forward, was one of five Golden Eagles in
double-figures. She was 7-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from the
line as ORU (6-2) defeated OSU (2-6) for the second time this
season.
Oklahoma State was on the verge of making the game a laugher early,
as the Cowgirls jumped out to a 12-0 lead, while ORU started 0-of-8
from the field. But the Golden Eagles stormed back with a 19-5 run,
grabbing a 19-17 lead on Leah Cannon's 3-pointer with 7:48 left in
the half.
OSU briefly retook the lead, but the Golden Eagles maintained a
36-29 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, ORU built its lead to as many as 13 points when
Clark's layup with 5:31 left gave the Golden Eagles a 60-47
cushion. But the Cowgirls wouldn't go away and pulled to within
64-63 on a Thia Willis jumper with 2:00 left. OSU never regained
the lead as ORU made six free throws over the final 46 seconds to
seal the win.
Cannon had 15 points and five assists for ORU, while Cori Williston
had 12 points, Kristin Atkinson scored 11 and April Garcia had 10
points and 10 rebounds. Garcia also added four assists, three
steals and three blocks. Trisha Skibbe led OSU with 23 points and
seven boards.

with Skibbe and Lori Allen of Oklahoma State, and Julie Rampley of
Texas-San Antonio.
