Tulsa, Okla. -- The Oral Roberts University
volleyball team swept conference foe UMKC in three games (30-18,
30-25, 30-16), giving ORU its 24th consecutive home win.
The ORU volleyball team went undefeated at home last season (13-0)
and have not lost a game at ORU since Sept. 2, 2000, when Missouri
took a match 3-1. ORU is 83-3 (44-0 Mid-Con) at home over the past
seven years.
Celeste Jones led the Golden Eagles with smoldering .619 hitting
percentage with 13 kills and no errors on 21 attempts. The
sophomore middle blocker also added two block solos, four block
assists and four digs.
Senior middle blocker Ivana Placko contributed a .450 hitting
percentage (11-2-20) and two block assists. Sophomore libero Becky
Dreher had 18 digs, while senior setter Anna Moreno had 33 assists.
Senior outside hitter April Syko had a .438 hitting percentage
(8-1-16).
The Golden Eagles had a .284 hitting percentage and outblocked UMKC
10.5-6. ORU was without its rightside hitter Patricia Menezes, who
sat out today's game due to an injury sustained in practice earlier
in the week.
ORU moves to 7-6 (1-0 Mid-Con) on the season, while UMKC drops to
8-9.
The ORU volleyball team is back in action next weekend for three
home games. They face conference foe Valparaiso on Friday, Oct. 4,
at 7 p.m., IUPUI on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Drake on Sunday at 2
p.m.
Other Notables: April Syko's 16 kill attempts today moved her into
fifth place on the ORU all-time career charts in kill attempts.
Syko has a career total of 2,564 kill attempts.
