Tulsa, Okla.
-- The Oral Robert's University women's soccer team got a strong
showing from a pair of freshmen en route to a 3-0 victory over
previously Portland State Friday night at the ORU Soccer Complex. A
pair of second-half goals by forward Jessica Kellogg (Tulsa, Okla.)
and goalkeeper Kellie Fenton's first career shutout propelled the
Golden Eagles to their first victory of the season.
After a scoreless first-half, ORU (1-2) came out of the gate strong
in the second and proved to be too much for the Vikings (2-1) to
handle. Kellogg scored her first goal on the night in the 61st
minute, as fellow freshman Lindsey Ruisch found her streaking
across the middle of the box. Just ten minutes later Kellogg netted
her third goal of the season, a point-blank shot off a deflected
attempt by Jodi Kirkhuff (Tulsa, Okla.).
Those two goals were more than enough for Fenton, as she recorded
six saves on the way to her first career shutout. Fenton and the
Golden Eagle defense limited the Vikings to only 12 shots for the
entire game.
Kirkhuff put the game way out of reach at the game's 83:38 mark,
knocking in her first goal of the year off a cross by teammate Kris
Bramlett (Tulsa, Okla.).
ORU will return to action this Sunday, as they conclude a four-game
home stand at the ORU Soccer Complex with a match against the
University of Louisianna-Lafayette at 1:00 p.m.
