Denton, Texas --
The Oral Roberts University volleyball team lost to the
University of North Texas 3-1 (16-30, 30-27, 35-33, 30-27), before
defeating the University of Texas-El Paso 3-1 (27-30, 30-26, 31-29,
30-20) Saturday afternoon during play at the Mean Green Classic on
the campus of the University of North Texas.
In ORU's first afternoon match, the Golden Eagles were able to jet
to a 10-3 advantage in game one en route to a 30-16 game one
victory over a lethargic North Texas squad. Then ORU simply let
game two slip away. An awakening by a solid North Texas squad along
with numerous bad breaks haunted ORU throughout games three and
four.
Freshman middle blocker Maja Devic continued her emergence with 15
kills, a team-best four service aces, three blocks, and hitting
percentage of .370. Freshman outside hitter Ori Zuzic led ORU with
19 kills. Brittany Arnold recorded an ORU season-high 58 assists.
Junior libero Becky Dreher had 16 digs.
Against UTEP, Junior outside hitter Becky Brunelle led ORU with a
double-double of 16 kills and 25 digs. Zuzic had 16 kills as well,
while Devic again led ORU in blocks with seven. Arnold tossed up 42
assists, and Dreher had 21 digs vs. UTEP.
ORU's record now stands at 6-9, North Texas improved to 9-6, and
UTEP dropped to 5-9. ORU's next match takes place Tuesday night at
5:00 when the University of Arkansas-Little Rock visits the Cooper
Aerobics Center on the campus of ORU.
