Chicago, Ill. �€" The Oral Roberts University
women's volleyball team reeled off its eighth straight win Friday
night, defeating Chicago State 3-1 (30-25, 24-20, 30-17, 30-21) in
Mid-Continent Conference action. Leading the charge for the Golden
Eagles (13-9, 5-1) was senior libero Becky Dreher, who totaled an
astonishing 39 digs on the night. Dreher currently ranks second in
the nation with 6.77 digs per game, and according to the most
recent NCAA record book she has climbed into 12th place on the
NCAA's all-time digs list.
Dreher now has 1,953 digs for her career; the most by any one
player in Mid-Con history. Friday night's total was the most digs
she had amassed since recording 40 against Arkansas State on the
same night in 2002.
Ori Zuzic added 20 kills and 15 digs for ORU, while Maja Devic and
Kim Snow both chipped in with 12 kills apiece. Zuzic now has career
940 kills at ORU, which moves her into eigth place all time, right
ahead of current head coach Sheera Sirola (928).
The Cougars (7-13, 2-4) were led by a pair of double-doubles from
Stacey Cole (11 kills and 13 digs) and Katie Zillner (10 kills and
12 digs), but it wasn't enough to overcome the play of the red-hot
Golden Eagles.
ORU out-hit Chicago State .233 to .119 on the night, including .382
to .043 in the match's final game.
The Golden Eagles will look to make it nine straight wins tomorrow
night as they travel to Indianapolis to square off agaisnt Mid-Con
foe IUPUI.
