Tulsa, Okla. -- Visiting Valparaiso out-scored ORU 15-9 in game
five to take a hard-
fought 3-2 (25-30, 30-20, 30-21, 29-31, 15-9) victory over the
Golden Eagles in Mid-
Continent Conference volleyball action at the Cooper Aerobics
Center Saturday evening.
ORU (14-11, 6-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the first
game, 30-25. The
Golden Eagles hit a blistering .295 in game one, compared to
Valpo's .089.
Valparaiso (20-3, 9-0), which strengthened its lead atop the
Mid-Con standings with
the victory, battled back to win the next two games before ORU
rallied for a 31-29
victory in game four to force the decisive fifth game.
ORU, which returns to action Friday when Centenary visits the
Cooper Aerobics Center
at 7 p.m., was led by Ori Zuzic's double-double of 19 kills and 19
digs, while Mirela
Basic added a career-high seven kills and four block assists off
the bench. Becky
Brunelle also contributed 15 digs to increase her career total to
999. Her next dig will
make her the fifth player in school history to reach 1,000 career
digs.
Amy Palash led a balanced Valpo attack with 15 kills. The Crusaders
also got double-
figure kills from Lauren Moulton (14), Jessie Fox (13), Liz Mikos
(12), and Tiffany
Meikle (12). Mikos added five block solos and three block assists
to help the visitors to
a total of 16.0 team blocks in the match.
