Macomb, Ill. -- The Oral Roberts University women's volleyball
team dropped a five game match (30-25, 30-21, 19-30, 24-30, 5-15)
to Mid-Con foe Western Illinois on Friday night. With the loss, the
Golden Eagles drop to 15-13 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
In spite of the loss, senior libero Becky Dreher's (Prince George,
B.C., Canada) career high 54 digs propelled her into 3rd place on
the NCAA's all time dig list. Dreher now has 2,093 digs for her
career, overcoming Trish Ladusaw from Cincinnati who has a total of
2,074 digs on record from 1999-2002.
Sophmore outside hitter Ori Zuzic (Porec, Croatia) led the ORU
attack with a double-double featuring 24 kills and 18 digs. Becky
Brunelle (Saskatoon, Sask., Canada) also chipped in with a
double-double of her own with 12 kills and 26 digs, but it wasn't
enough for the Golden Eagles to overcome a quality performance by
the Westerwinds.
Junior Jenna Yurs led Western Illinois back from a 2-0 game deficit
with 14 kills and 11 blocks. The Westerwinds came back to defeat
ORU in a decisive game five.
ORU will return to Mid-Con action on Sunday afternoon as they
travel to UMKC for a 1:00 pm matinee start.
