Mid-Con volleyball favorite ORU dropped its conference opener, 3-1
(23-30, 22-30, 31
-29, 26-30) at Valparaiso Friday evening.
ORU (5-9, 0-1) hit just .135 as a team for the match, and fell
behind 2-0 before
rallying to post a 31-29 win in game three to extend the re-match
between the two
teams who played in last season's Mid-Con Tournament
Championship.
Valparaiso (10-3, 1-0) built a 13-4 lead in the deciding game four
and held off a late
ORU rally for the win. The Crusaders snapped a 20-20 tie with two
straight points and
never trailed again.
Maja Devic also had 11 kills for ORU, while Brittany Arnold added
eight kills (a team-
leading .217 hitting pct.), 18 assists and nine digs. Becky Dreher
also recorded a
match-high 35 digs for the Golden Eagles, who travel to Oakland at
1 p.m.
Sunday.
