TULSA, Okla. �€" The Oral Roberts University
volleyball led wire-to-wire as they topped UMKC, 3-0 (30-11, 30-17,
30-18), in front of 207 at the Cooper Aerobics Center Saturday
night.
Outside hitter Ori Zuzic (Porec, Croatia) recorded
a match-high 11 kills, while hitting .381 (11-3-21) for the match.
Zuzic had a solid all-around effort as she added seven service aces
and five blocks assists.
The Golden Eagles (8-7, 2-1) hit .393 (42-9-84) as a team, while
limiting the Kangaroos (3-12, 1-3) to a mere -.093 (21-31-108). ORU
held an advantage on both sides of the net, as they totaled more
kills (42-21) and blocks (10-5) than their Mid-Con
counterparts.
A pair of Carol Garbato (Sao Paulo, Brazil)
service aces put the Golden Eagles ahead 5-0 in game one, giving
them a lead they would not relinquish. The ORU lead grew to 20
points (28-8) as they took game one 30-11.
Game two was more of the same, as the Golden Eagles never trailed
while cruising to a 30-17 win. Zuzic led ORU through the second
game as she finished the frame with four kills, three aces and
three block assists.
The Golden Eagles saved their most dominating performance for the
final stanza, hitting an amazing .500 (16-4-24) as a team, and
holding UMKC to a -.125 (7-11-32).
Middle blocker Maja Devic (Split, Croatia) aided
the ORU cause with nine kills and seven blocks assists while
hitting .400 (9-3-15) for the match. Righside hitter Jackie
Oliveira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) chipped in with nine kills
and seven digs.
Libero Cris Alves (Sao Caetano, Brazil) and setter
Brittany Arnold (Tulsa, Okla.) anchored the Golden
Eagles defense with 11 digs each, and Arnold added a match-high 27
assists.
ORU will return to action when they host in-state rival Oklahoma on
Wednesday night at the Cooper Aerobics Center. Admission to the
7:00 p.m. match is free.
