TULSA, Okla. �€" The Oral Roberts University
volleyball team extended its conference win streak to 10 matches
with a straight game sweep of IUPUI, 3-0 (30-20, 30-14, 30-28),
Saturday night in Mid-Continent Conference action at the Cooper
Aerobics Center.
The Golden Eagles (19-9, 11-1) remain tied atop the league
standings with Valparaiso heading into the last weekend of Mid-Con
play.
Middle blocker Kim Snow (DeKalb, Ill.) led the ORU
offense with 11 kills, registering just one attack error in 17
attempts. She finished the night with a match-high .588 attack
percentage. Outside hitter Ori Zuzic (Porec,
Croatia) added 10 kills, six digs, and a pair of service aces.
The Golden Eagle defense played tough all night, limiting IUPUI
(13-15, 6-6) to a .082 attack percentage as they totaled 40 digs
and seven blocks. Libero Cris Alves (Sao Caetano,
Brazil) paced the defense with a match-high 18 digs.
The ORU offense proved just as stout with a .353 attack percentage
and a mere 11 attack errors in 102 attempts.
Already ahead one game to none, ORU cruised through game two,
30-14, to take a commanding 2-0 match lead. The home squad hit .400
as a team in the second game, while limiting the Jaguars to -.129
attack percentage as they forced 12 attack errors compared to eight
IUPUI kills.
The Jaguars looked to put together a late rally, forcing a 28-28
tie in game three, but kills by middle blocker Maja
Devic (Split, Croatia) and rightside hitter Jackie
Oliveira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) gave the Golden Eagles a
30-28 win for the 3-0 match victory.
Oliveira recorded nine kills and four picks on the night, while
middle blocker JoJo Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil)
chipped in with nine kills and three blocks.
Casey Chrzastowski led IUPUI with 13 kills and Devika Bellamy added
a match-high 22 assists.
The Golden Eagles will take the court in their 2005 home finale in
Tuesday night, as they host cross-town rival Tulsa at 7:00 p.m.
