SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Outside hitter Ori Zuzic
(Porec, Croatia) recorded match-highs of 12 kills and 13 digs as
the Oral Roberts University volleyball team topped North Dakota
State, 3-0 (30-23, 30-24, 30-18), in the second day of play at the
T.J. Sales/Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational in Springfield, Mo.
Sunday's match marked Zuzic's sixth double-double effort of the
year.
Middle blocker JoJo Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil)
added 11 kills and five blocks for ORU (6-6), and rightside hitter
Jackie Oliveira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) chipped in
with 10 kills while hitting a match-high .474 (10-1-19).
Despite being out-hit by the Bison (1-15) .424 to .343 in game one,
the Golden Eagles nearly led game one from start to finish. North
Dakota State took an early 1-0 lead, but ORU scored the next three
points for a 3-1 advantage and would never look back. The Golden
Eagles extended their lead to seven points on six occasions en
route to the 30-23 win.
The ORU defense stepped up in game two, limiting the Bison to a
mere .042 attack percentage and forcing nearly as many NDSU errors
(6) as kills (7). Souza connected on four markers during game two
in leading the Golden Eagles to the 30-24 win and 2-0 match
advantage.
ORU wasted no time in closing out the match, using a 4-0 spurt to
take a 4-1 advantage and cruising to the 30-18 match clinching
win.
Setter Thais Parada (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had a
match-high 40 assists to go along with seven digs for the Golden
Eagles, while libero Cris Alves (Sao Caetano,
Brazil) aided the ORU cause with nine digs and three service
aces.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they travel to face
Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
