TULSA,
Okla. €" Nikola Bogdanovic (Belgrade,
Serbia) scored twice and Juan Chang (Guatemala
City, Guatemala) added his team-leading seventh goal and an assist
as Oral Roberts University rolled to a 4-1 victory over
Northeastern State on a cold and damp night at the ORU Soccer
Complex.
Jacob Schmoker (Catoosa, Okla.) put the Golden
Eagles on the scoreboard with his second tally of the year.
Schmoker used his speed to streak in on the NSU defense, received a
pass from Chang, and buried the ball in the back of the net.
Schmoker€™s goal ended 64:13 minutes of
scoreless play from both teams.
Bogdanovic scored his first of the night when he took advantage of
a lose ball right in front of the net. NSU€™s
keeper Ransone Rose made a diving jab at a cross from
ORU€™s Miguel Peralta (Tulsa,
Okla.) but Bogdanovic was in the right place at the right time to
score his first goal of the year. His goal came just a little over
four minutes after Schmoker€™s.
That
proved to be the game winner as NSU responded off a free kick from
Clark Bradford that found Moses Emujakporue, who then headed it
past ORU€™s keeper Carlos Veron
(Asuncion, Paraguay) to make it 2-1.
At the
84:22 mark Bogdanovic received a pass from Gary Duran (Santa Cruz,
Bolivia) and chipped it over NSU€™s Rose to have
a open look at the net.
Chang
then tallied his seventh goal of the year in the last minute of
play after Eric Mattison (Granite Bay, Calif.) fed
him the ball. Chang sneaked one in just inside the post to increase
ORU€™s lead to three.
The
first half was scoreless as the Golden Eagles out shot the Redman
7-6. Both goalies had two saves in the first frame.
Veron
played solid behind a good defensive effort for the Golden Eagles.
The keeper recorded five saves to improve to 4-6-2.
Northeastern State fell to 8-3-3 with the loss.
With
the win, ORU moves to 4-6-2 on the year.
The
Golden Eagles travel to Peoria, Ill. to play Bradley, a Missouri
Valley Conference school, on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
