Okla. ?" The Oral Roberts University volleyball team won
it?s 14th straight match Friday night, sweeping UMKC,
3-0 (30-24, 30-6, 30-18), in Mid-Continent Conference action at the
Aerobics Center.
The
Golden Eagles (16-6, 5-0) have won 42 of 46 games while on its
current win streak, earning sweeps in 11 of the 14 wins. ORU has
also won its last 14 matches at home, dating back to last
season.
Jackie Oliveira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) paced ORU
with 13 kills while hitting a match-high .706.
The
home squad turned in a fine all-around performance, hitting .382 as
a team while limiting UMKC (3-18, 1-4) to a mere .041 attack
percentage. The Golden Eagles nearly doubled the Kangaroos in kills
(52-27) and also held an advantage in assists (48-26), digs
(42-33), and service aces (9-0).
After
taking game one with a 30-24 victory, the Golden Eagles came out on
fire in game two. They led by an early 6-3 margin, but an
Ori Zuzic (Porec, Croatia) kill sparked a 10-0
spurt that gave the home side a 13 point lead. After UMKC made it
16-4, ORU continued to pour it on by notching 14 of the next 16
tallies for a 30-6 game two win. All totaled, the Golden Eagles
closed game two on a 24-3 run.
It was
more of the same in game three, as ORU took the first point and led
wire-to-wire. The Kangaroos did close to within 18-15 a little over
halfway through the game, but the Golden Eagles used a 7-0 run to
open up some breathing room at 25-15 en route to their 30-18
match-clinching win.
Oliveira was just one of three Golden Eagles to register
double-digit kills, as Zuzic finished the match with 12 kills,
seven digs and six aces, and Kim Snow (DeKalb,
Ill.) added 10 markers and six blocks.
ORU
will be back in action tomorrow night as they host Western Illinois
at 5:00 p.m. Admission to the match is free.
