TULSA, Okla. Oral Roberts
University (5-7-3, 2-3-0) men's soccer team kept their playoff
hopes alive with a come from behind, 3-1, victory over
Mid-Continent Conference foe Centenary on a cold night at the ORU
Soccer Complex.
Centenary got on the board first on
a free kick from The Gents leading scorer Aaron Volanski.
Volanski's goal came as of a result of a hand ball from an ORU
defender. The goal came at the 30:16 mark.
The Golden Eagles responded less
than ten minutes later when freshman Jorge Davila
(Dallas, Texas) scored his third goal of the year. Davila headed a
pass from Carlos Pinto (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and
Eric Mattison (Granite Bay, Calif.) past
Centenary's goalkeeper James Speed at the 39:39 mark.
At the end of the first half ORU
held an 8-4 advantage on shots and a 2-1 edge on corner kicks.
ORU scored two goals in the second
half to pull away from Centenary. Jacob Schmoker
(Catoosa, Okla.) netted the game-winner in the 62nd minute,
receiving a pass from Jesse Roque (El Paso,
Texas). With Centenary pressing the ORU defense, forward
Juan Chang (Guatemala City, Guatemala) took the
ball down the field and got a shot off but was blocked by CC's
Speed. The rebound from the initial save found Chang and he buried
his second ball in the back of the net. The goal, which came at the
86:45 minute mark, put ORU up 3-1.
ORU's goalkeeper Carlos
Veron (Asuncion, Paraguay) recorded two saves to pick up
his fifth win of the year. Centenary's Speed had nine saves in a
valiant effort.
Centenary dropped to 4-11-0, 2-4-0
on the year.
The Golden Eagles return to action
on Monday, hosting Central Arkansas, at 7:00 p.m.
