performance led the Oral Roberts University volleyball team to a
3-0 (30-6,
30-13, 30-11) victory over Mid-Con foe Oakland, Friday night at the
Aerobics
Center. With the win, the Golden Eagles remained unbeaten at home
during the
2006 season (10-0) and extended their overall home win streak to 15
matches.
ORU (20-7, 8-0) has now won 20 matches for the 12th time in the
last 14
seasons.
Zuzic?s effort marked her 15th double-double on the
year, while she also hit a
match-high .609. Thais Parada (Sao Paulo, Brazil)
chipped in
with a double-double of her own with 10 kills and 37 assists.
ORU took control of the match from the very beginning, turning four
Oakland
(1-20, 0-8) errors into a quick 5-0 advantage. The lead would
continue to grow
from there, as three Maja Devic (Split, Croatia)
kills fueled an
11-1 run to put the home side ahead 19-3 en route to their 30-6
game one win.
The Golden Eagles hit .424 as a team in game one, while also
forcing nine Golden
Grizzly errors ?" with just two kills - as the visitors hit
-.194.
Zuzic and Parada kept the offensive pressure on OU in game two,
combing for
nine of ORU?s 17 kills. As a team, the Golden Eagles
hit .436 during the game
totaling 17 kills without a single error on 39 attempts. They led
from start to
finish as well, jumping ahead with an early 9-2 lead. The home side
then led by
double digits most of the way to a 30-13 win and two games to none
lead.
The ORU offense saved their best performance for last, totaling 20
kills while
hitting a blistering .533 in game number three. Zuzic kills
accounted for six of
the game?s first nine tallies as Carol
Garbato (Sao Paulo,
Brazil) served the home side to a 9-0 lead. Their lead would grow
to 11 points
before a 9-1 spurt put ORU ahead 26-7. OU would fight off game
point once, but
their deficit was too large to overcome as the Golden Eagles
followed up with a
Jackie Oliveira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) kill for a
30-11 match
clinching win.
The ORU defense held Oakland to a -.106 attack percentage on the
night, forcing
nearly twice as many errors (26) as Golden Grizzly kills (14). The
home side,
meanwhile, hit .461 as a team with 53 kills and just six errors in
102 attempts.
Kim Snow (DeKalb, Ill.) finished the night with
nine kills and
hit .600 while Oliveira added eight kills on a .538 clip.
Cris Alvesstrong> (Sao Caetano, Brazil) led four Golden
Eagles in double digit digs, as she
recorded a match-best 19 picks.
The Golden Eagles will close out the home portion of their 2006
schedule
tomorrow night as they welcome defending Mid-Con champ Valparaiso
to the
Aerobics Center for a 5:00 p.m. match. Admission to the match is
free.
