scored a natural hat trick to lead the Leathernecks to a 6-1
victory over Oral Roberts University (3-6-2, 1-3-0) on Saturday
afternoon in Macomb, Ill.
Western Illinois
scored first on a goal from Nick Bohnenkamp at the 17:35 mark of
the first frame. Wieclaw netted his first tally in the
19th minute to extend the Leathernecks lead to 2-0.
At the end of the
first half, WIU out shot the Golden Eagles 9-5 and held a 3-2 edge
on corner kicks.
WIU�€™s Wieclaw started the scoring in the
51st minute of the second half, scoring off a touch pass
from Martin Browne. Wieclaw finished his natural hat trick at the
53:48 mark on a unassisted goal. Wieclaw extended the Leathernecks
lead to 4-0.
ORU fought back
with a goal from freshman forward Jorge Davila (Dallas, Texas).
Davila received a pass from Jacob Schmoker (Catoosa, Okla.) and
Miguel Peralta (Tulsa, Okla.) to net his second goal of the
year.
WIU scored their
fifth goal of the game to make it a 5-1 advantage only 20 seconds
after Davila�€™s goal. Preston Bernardi scored
his third goal of the game and Martin Browne added his second
helper. The Leathernecks Adam Johnson finished off the scoring for
the game as he scored on a unassisted goal to increase the lead to
6-1.
ORU and WIU
combined for nine yellow cards with ORU receiving six of them.
ORU�€™s Carlos Pinto (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) picked
up two yellow cards to earn a red card and will have to sit out the
next match.
WIU out shot ORU
18-10 in the match and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Leathernecks
improved to 8-4-0 and 3-0-0 in Mid-Con play.
The Golden Eagles
will return to action on Tuesday in a match against Division II
Northeastern State, game time is slated at 7:00 p.m.
