TULSA�€"Caleb Green (Tulsa, Okla.) and
Ken Tutt (Garland, Texas) each scored 21 points in
leading Oral Roberts University to a 97-69 exhibition win over
Langston, Thursday at Mabee Center.
Green
was 5-for-10 from the field and made 11-of-12 free throws. The
senior forward also added eight rebounds and two assists in 27
minutes. Tutt shot 8-for-16 from the field, including 3-for-6 from
3-point range, and made both free throws.
In the
first of two exhibition games prior to next
Friday�€™s season opener at Loyola Marymount, the
Golden Eagles unveiled several new players along side stalwarts
Green and Tutt. And the new kids made their mark.
Sophomore guard Kelvin Sango (Tulsa, Okla.), a
transfer from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M enjoyed a strong debut,
scoring 14 points with seven steals, four rebounds and three
assists while playing a team-high 29 minutes.
Junior
point guard Adam Liberty (Oklahoma City, Okla.)
made his long-awaited first appearance in an ORU uniform after
sitting out last season as a transfer from Wichita State. Liberty
scored 14 points, with four assists, four rebounds and two steals,
and had a pair of crowd-pleasing dunks �€" an alley-oop
in the first half and a put-back slam off a missed shot in the
second half.
Junior
center Shawn King (Bequia, St. Vincent), a
transfer from Carl Albert (Okla.) State, had a solid initial
outing, with eight points and eight rebounds. The 6-foot-10 King
also blocked three shots in 22 minutes.
ORU
shot 45.6 percent (17-30) from the field, 33.3 percent (6-18) from
3-point range, and 72.5 percent (29-40) from the free throw
line.
The
Golden Eagles limited the NAIA Lions to 34.5 percent shooting for
the game, including 30.3 percent in the second half. ORU forced
Langston into 26 turnovers, producing 15 steals.
Both
teams had 42 rebounds.
Chris
Thompson led Langston with a game-high 31 points.
The
Golden Eagles play their second and final exhibition game when they
host NCAA Division II power Central Oklahoma, 7:05 p.m., Saturday
at Mabee Center.
