?" Maja Devic (Split, Croatia) totaled 10
kills and hit a game-high .429 in leading the Oral Roberts
University volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-24, 30-27, 31-29) victory
over IPFW in opening round action at the LaQuinta Invitational
Friday night.
Devic also
added six blocks on the night while Ori Zuzic
(Porec, Croatia) chipped in with 14 kills, eight blocks, and four
service aces.
ORU (3-6) got
the defense going early, limiting IPFW (5-5) to a mere .140 attack
percentage in game one, forcing nine Mastodon errors in 42 attempts
during their 30-24 win. The offense then took over in game two,
rolling up a .310 clip while the defense again held IPFW at bay en
route to their 30-27 victory and two games to none lead.
The Mastodon's
looked to make a late push in game three, out-hitting ORU .217 to
.142, but the Golden Eagles held on to an 18-16 lead on total kills
as they survived with a 31-29 win to finish off the sweep.
JoJo
Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also added 10 kills for ORU
while Thais Parada (Sao Paulo, Brazil) finished with a match-high
37 assists. A pair of Golden Eagles reached double-digit deals, as
Cris Alves (Sao Caetano, Brazil) had 17 picks and
Brittany Arnold (Tulsa, Okla.) recorded 14 of her
own.
The Golden
Eagles will return to action when they face tourney-host Utah
Valley State on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. (CDT).
