FORT WAYNE,
Ind. -- Five different players scored goals and Stef Gurley became Oral Roberts
University's all-time leader in shutouts as the Golden Eagles
defeated IPFW 5-0, Sunday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Gurley
turned back all three shots on-goal by the Mastadons (1-13-0, 1-4-0
Summit League) to earn her 18th career shutout in her stellar
four-year career at ORU (7-5-2, 2-1-2 Summit League).
Marissa Ranberger started the scoring for
the Golden Eagles at the 22:10 mark. The Golden, Colo. native
received a pass from midfielder Natalya Manyan and beat the IPFW goalkeeper
from 18-yards out.
Despite the
12-4 advantage in shots, including an 8-4 edge in shots on-goal,
ORU strolled into halftime with just a 1-0 lead.
The second
half was different though as the Golden Eagles tallied four goals
to build a 5-0 lead.
Sophomore
transfer Jessica Harthcock started the scoring in
the second-half with a goal just a little over four minutes in.
Harthcock beat the Dons goalkeeper Malinda Holmer from
eight-yards out, while teammates Tara Lomas and Jordan Miller were credited with the
assists.
Lomas got a
goal of her own to give ORU a 3-0 lead at the 64:34 mark. Off a
pass from Emily Gagnon, Lomas was able to beat Holmer
one-on-one and bury the ball in the back of the net.
Shakira
Duncan, the league-leader in goals, scored her ninth goal of the
year in the 78th minute from 10-yards out. Duncan then helped with
the scoring of the fifth goal by assisting on Brittany Winslow's goal that gave ORU a
decisive 5-0 lead in the 80th minute. Duncan had the original shot,
but the rebound found Winslow as the freshman scored her second
goal of the season.
In all, ORU
held a 26-5 advantage in shots, including a 16-3 edge in shots
on-goal. IPFW's Holmer had 11 saves in a losing effort.
The five
goals scored by ORU marks the most goals the Golden Eagles have
scored in a match since a 7-0 defeat of John Brown on Aug. 25,
2006.
ORU returns
to action on Friday, traveling to play regional-rival and Big 12
foe Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Match is slated to start at 5
p.m.
