ORU Struggles in 3-0 Loss to Wichita State

TULSA - The Golden Eagles 19-match home winning streak came to a close as the Wichita State Shockers (17-4, 8-1 MVC) defeated ORU in three games by scores of 15-30, 29-31, 25-30.

Leading the way for Oral Roberts (12-9, 7-1 Summit League) was junior Danijela Novakovic who finished with a team-high 10 kills, while juniors JoJo Souza, Janete Ferreira and Jackie Oliveira each chipped in 10 a piece.

Junior Thais Parada posted her fourth double-double of the season as she finished the match with 31 assists and 11 digs on the night.

Wichita State had three players finish with double-digit kills with sophomore Stephanie Tokarz finishing with a match-high 14 kills.

The Shockers were dominate at the net, tacking on 11 total blocks on the night compared to ORU's four.

The Golden Eagles came out in game one a bit timid, but fought back to score three-straight points to tie the match at 6-6. That would be as close as ORU would come to the Shocks as WSU would go on spurts of four, five and six-point runs, ending the match on a sophomore Emily Stockman kill to give WSU the win, 30-15.

ORU would come out in game two to take a 5-2 lead with the help of two WSU attack errors and a JoJo Souza kill. Wichita State would come back to tie the game and take the lead due to two Sara Lungren service aces. The teams would trade points and battle all the way to the end when the Golden Eagles would take a one-point lead, 28-29, off of a Angela Jakubov service error. But the Shockers would come back to score-three straight points and go into the locker room with a game two win, 31-29.

The Golden Eagles would jump out to a 7-2 advantage in game three with the aid of five WSU errors and two Jackie Oliveira kills. Wichita State would trump right back, scoring seven-straight points to take the lead. ORU would play catch-up the remainder of the match, only coming within a point of the Shockers, but making a valiant effort by scoring four-straight points to try and stay in the game at the end, but WSU proved to be too much for ORU, ending the match with a Lindsey Eckenrode block to give the Shocks the 30-25 win.

The Golden Eagles will look to rebound this weekend as they get back on the road to take on IUPUI Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. and then Centenary on Sunday at 2 p.m.
