Golden Eagles Drop Three to South Dakota State

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Golden Eagle volleyball team (16-14, 11-5 Summit League) lost its second-straight conference match to South Dakota State (23-8, 13-3 Summit League) by scores of 21-30, 18-30, 22-30.

Junior Jackie Oliveira snagged her 21st double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs for ORU. Oliveira was the top dig-producer for ORU in the match, while junior Carol Garbato dished out nine. Junior Thais Parada finished the match with 24 assists, while freshman Jocelyn Swier registered five blocks for the Golden Eagles.

South Dakota State, who with this win claimed the Summit League regular-season title outright, was able to hold the Golden Eagles to .078 hitting in three games.

The match started close with five ties early in game one before the Jacks broke a nine-all tie with a 5-0 run to take a 14-9 lead. From there, SDSU continued to increase its lead until they eventually closed the game on a 5-0 run to win 30-21.

Game two started with the Jackrabbits jumping out to a 12-4 lead. ORU would cut the lead to three at 18-15, but the Jacks would go on an 8-0 run to secure the 30-18 win.

ORU took an early 7-4 lead in the third game, but the Jacks battled back to tie the game at nine, ten and 12 before taking the lead for good at 13-12, moving on to win 30-22.

The Golden Eagles are currently in a tie for fourth place with Western Illinois in the conference standings. They will have to await the IPFW vs. IUPUI match on Sunday at 2 p.m. to find out if they will move on to the conference tournament.
