TULSA A career-high 20 points from junior Rachel
Watman helped push the Oral Roberts women's basketball team
(2-0) past cross-town rival Tulsa, 48-33. With the win, the Golden
Eagles maintain control of the Mayor's Cup, the annual trophy that
goes to the winner of the ORU-TU game.
Watman was able to sneak in for three steals
to add to her game-high 20-point night. Junior Mariana
Camargo was the only ORU player in double-digits, finishing the
game with 12 points, while dishing out five assists and grabbing
seven rebounds in the win.
Junior Jenny
Hardin snagged a team-high 10 rebounds, while freshman Leanne
Robison and sophomore Janae Voelker had five rebounds apiece.
Robison also added nine points.
The Golden Eagles held TU (0-2) to 22.7
percent field-goal shooting for the night, going 5-for-23 in the
first half. ORU also forced the Golden Hurricane to 23
turnovers.
In the first half, ORU jumped out to 12-2
lead with the help of back-to-back three-pointers from Watman.
Tulsa would go on an eight-point run to eventually tie the game at
16-16, but Monah Pegorari would immediately regain the lead with a
layup at the 4:56 mark. That would be as close as TU would get to
the Golden Eagles the remainder of the game. ORU would go in to the
locker room with a 24-16 advantage at halftime.
The Golden Eagles opened the second-half up
with back-to-back layups to go up by 12. The ORU defense was
strong, though, holding TU to zero points until the 12:00 mark.
From there, Tulsa would go on an eight-point run with the help of
Chanel Johnson's back-to-back-to-back layups to pull the Golden
Hurricane to within 11, 24-35. Both teams would trade points
back-and-forth until the last second, but the Golden Eagles proved
to be too much for the host team, winning 48-33.
ORU will return to the Mabee Center on
Saturday, Nov. 17 with a 2:05 p.m. match-up with Northern
Colorado.
